. 2011 will be my 5th year involvement with USA FIT. I was a member-turned-coach with Bellingham FIT (in WA state). When I relocated to Lincoln for my husband (Coach Kelly), I was given the amazing opportunity to start a USA FIT program in NE. Watch out... this is a highly addictive program. If you relocate, you will want to bring a program with you! :-)

I have always been an outdoors person as far back as I can remember. When I was just a wee one.... well, it always seemed like I had so much energy, and running just seemed so natural and effortless. Once high school came along, I was well prepared for both track and cross country. I just wanted to be outdoors. You could say that being a long distance runner has always been in my blood. When my college years came around, I became very ill. I was bed ridden for a month. This is when I found out that I had Crohns Disease. I did not run for a long time after the diagnosis. Two surgeries later and 39 inches of small intestine removed, along with many Remicade infusions, I started running again (about three years ago). I refuse to let the disease define me as a person. I have completed 3 half marathons, and I plan on running 2 marathons (and a number of half marathons) in 2011. If I can do it..... anybody can do it! I am so thankful for my lovely wife, Kirsten, and our twin boys. I truly believe that USA FIT Lincoln will change the lives of many people. I cannot wait for all of you to be an inspiration to others. If you choose not to walk/run a half/full marathon, that is OK! You can just get out of the house and come together with other people... and have FUN!

I began my running career after meeting my wife. I previously was a cyclist and hated running because it hurt so much, but after working hard on my running form, running became easier and now I prefer running as my cardio of choice! I participated in my first half marathon last year with USA FIT Lincoln and got the bug to continue my running career. I am excited to work with any other runners, like myself, who feel like running isn’t quite their thing. With proper running form, you can run any distance!

I ran in my first road race at the age of 5 and have since been a fan of running. My father, who was a college track athlete, taught me proper running biomechanics at a very early age and my running career continued through college. After college, I continued jogging and have participated in smaller races, but have yet to run my first half Marathon! I found out in the middle of training for the half marathon last year that we were expecting our first child, so I could not continue my training, but am excited to finish the training without any bumps this year (literally) =). Please let Alex or myself know if you have any aches or pains as well…we would be glad to help anyone out!

I have always been active. However, a number of years ago I started to develop some chronic back pain. It got so bad, one day I could not walk off the golf course after a day of golf. I was so frustrated. As strange as it sounds, this is what led me to complete my first half marathon... I refused to let my body get the better of me. Fast forward 6 years, and I have completed a total of 14 half marathons and 1 marathon. I am the 1st (and only) female Half Fanatic in the state of NE, and 2011 will be my year to become a Marathon Maniac. Along with Coach Kelly, I look forward to continuing to satisfy my addiction to marathons & half marathons in 2011 and beyond. And, yes, it is an addiction... I look forward to watching all of our members catch the bug!

I have been running off and on since the 7th grade. I grew up in Ohio and majored in History and Business Management at the Univ. of Akron. When I am not working as the Insurance Manager at Holmes Lake Chiropractic, I enjoy photography, painting, playing the violin & traveling. I have 2 hairy kids: Teddy the Yorkie & Emma the cat. In addition to running a number of 5K & 10K races, I completed the 2008 Omaha Half Marathon & 2009 Lincoln Marathon. I look forward to running more races in 2011 with USA FIT Lincoln members!

Kym Hodgson
Head Coach
Hello! My name is Kym Hodgson, and I will be the Head Coach for the Purple Group with USA Fit Lincoln. I grew up in Lincoln and have enjoyed spending many, many hours on the bike trails throughout town walking and biking. Lincoln has such great trails around the city. The first race I ever registered for was the Buffalo Run at Pioneers Park. I caught the bug for races over the next half year and found myself at the starting line for the Lincoln Half Marathon. I completed the Lincoln Half Marathon twice and plan to do so again this year. I also walked the Omaha Marathon in 2010 with my two of my new friends from USA Fit Lincoln. What a wonderful source of encouragement and energy they were to me! As a mother of 3 children, my time can be short. I’ve learned to put a pair of tennis shoes in my trunk and sneak in walking time whenever possible (during soccer practice, basketball practice, swimming lessons, etc.). Walking gives me a sense of peace and is a good mental exercise for me as well as a physical one. I look forward to participating in many races in this year with the USA FIT Lincoln members!
Jennifer Rademacher
Assistant Coach
Hi! My name is Jennifer Rademacher. I currently work at Assurity Life Insurance and part time bartending at the Press Box Bar and Grille (some people call me a workaholic). I grew up on a farm outside of Odell, Nebraska, which is a very small town (about 290 people) about 1 hour and 15 minutes southwest of Lincoln, Nebraska. Growing up in Odell, no one ever talked about doing marathons, 10Ks, nor 5Ks! When I moved to Lincoln, that is when I started seeing them and hearing about them. I never never thought I was able to do or going to do a marathon. Honestly, I thought those people were crazy! Who would want to walk or run that far!?! Well, I moved to Lincoln, and I started walking a couple miles each weekend with one of my best friends for exercise. We then went to a women’s expo and heard of USA FIT, which is how we signed up for our first ever marathon. Lol, and believe it or not, the only reason I did it is because my best friend wanted to; I still thought it was crazy to do 13 miles! My friend and I wanted to lose weight though, and we agreed that this would be a perfect way to stay committed and get really good exercise (and get skinnier!). We started training for our marathon with USA FIT every Saturday morning. This included cold mornings and warm mornings, and yes, I’m still a wuss with the cold mornings. Then we started doing a few 10Ks just to get the race atmosphere. As Kirsten would say “we were 10k addicts!” With working part time, it made it hard to work and commit to every Saturday morning, but I made it work. I found time to do my distances during the week and on Sundays too, if I was not able to do them on Saturdays. I made it work, because I was bound to walk those crazy 13 miles. Then came the Omaha marathon. Talk about nerves! We both were nervous as ever for our first ever marathon. We both got very little sleep the night before, but we still got up at 5:30 that morning and headed to the starting line. I have never seen so many people! As they sang the anthem and everyone lined up to start, my nerves got nervier and nervier. The gun shot, and we were off! \"No turning back now,\" we said. And we did not turn back. When we crossed the finish line for the marathon, it was very, very emotional. Getting that medal put around my neck (especially by Marines) was more than words can explain. I was very proud of both myself and my best friend for finishing this accomplishment. There were tears (I swore I wasn’t going to cry either but it happened), hugs, pictures, exhaustion, relief and more. We never thought 6 months prior to that we would have been able to walk 13 miles. Now I am proud to say that I continue to train for 5Ks and 10Ks, and I am signing up for the Lincoln marathon and Omaha Marathon this year. And maybe I will do more! Like Kirsten said, we have turned into little 10k addicts.
